Summary

DI Eve Hunter is back in the edge-of-your-seat new detective thriller from Deborah Masson, winning author of the Bloody Scotland Crime Debut of the Year 2020。

A young man, the son of an influential businessman, is discovered dead in his central Aberdeen apartment。

Hours later, a teenaged girl with no identification is found hanged in a suspected suicide。

As DI Eve Hunter and her team investigate the two cases, they find themselves in a tug-of-war between privilege and poverty; between the elite and those on the fringes of society。

Then an unexpected breakthrough leads them to the shocking conclusion: that those in power have been at the top for too long - and now, someone is going to desperate lengths to bring them down。。。

Can they stop someone who is dead set on revenge, no matter the cost?

#OutForBlood #NetGalley This is the second book in this series and every bit as brilliant as the first。 Perfectly capable of being read as a standalone but it added to the enjoyment knowing a little bit about the background of the main character。 Plenty of action and twists and turns kept me turning the pages well into the night! I like the character of Eve as she searches for justice in her own inimitable way whilst at the same time she has a vulnerable side to her personal life。 I also enjoyed #OutForBlood #NetGalley This is the second book in this series and every bit as brilliant as the first。 Perfectly capable of being read as a standalone but it added to the enjoyment knowing a little bit about the background of the main character。 Plenty of action and twists and turns kept me turning the pages well into the night! I found it easy to keep turning the pages, though the resolution convinced less。

A GRIPPING STORY This book had a good storyline but was burdened by the sadness of it。 The characters were mildly interesting and somewhat predictable。 It was much too dark to enjoy。

Good readI enjoyed this but preferred her first novel。 Too many threads of story。 Very quickly wrapped up。 A bit scrappy and rushed at the end

Pretty good tale, good enough to make me go buy the first one in the series。 This one had me until the end, but the conclusion was a bit confusing to me。

Enjoyable read This is the first Deborah Masson book I have read, I felt that perhaps I should have read book 1 first as plenty of references are made to characters from there。However “Out for Blood” is a stand alone read and a good one at that, Eve & her team are chasing both murderers and a group running foreign prostitution with East European woman。Good Enjoyable read that keeps you going

Great story line & concept。 Great writing & characters。 However I didn’t feel the suspense。 It wasn’t nail biting enough for me。 Evidence started to piece together & the ending was quite abrupt。 My personal preference I like to read the aftermath once the story has revealed who’s guilty especially as there wasn’t much suspense。 Just an average story for me really。

Set in Aberdeen, Out for Blood is the second book in a solid crime-mystery series featuring DI Eve Hunter, Chief Investigating Officer of the Aberdeen Police's Major Incident Team。 Eve is still seeing her psychiatrist following a brutal attack on her and her colleague, DS Nicola Sanders, that left Eve with a limp。 Her boss, DCI Hastings is reluctant to let Eve handle two new cases。 The first is the murder of a young IT consultant, Dean Johnstone from a wealthy and privileged family, found in Set in Aberdeen, Out for Blood is the second book in a solid crime-mystery series featuring DI Eve Hunter, Chief Investigating Officer of the Aberdeen Police's Major Incident Team。 Eve is still seeing her psychiatrist following a brutal attack on her and her colleague, DS Nicola Sanders, that left Eve with a limp。 Her boss, DCI Hastings is reluctant to let Eve handle two new cases。 The first is the murder of a young IT consultant, Dean Johnstone from a wealthy and privileged family, found in his flat in the city centre。 The second case is the suspected suicide of a young woman, found hanged in the trees at Hazlehead MacKenzie Championship golf course。 Out for Blood is told from an investigative point of view, with a few interjections from an unnamed young woman muddying the waters and creating another dimension。 DI Eve Hunter makes a very rewarding protagonist。 Her desire for justice, hot-temperament and her personal struggles make her as fascinating as the main plot, giving rise to a novel that is all the more rewarding。 Deborah Masson's inspired writing continues to wow me and I especially like that the team are gelling a little more as they had previously often been working in disharmony with each other。 In a story that delves into the seedy and repulsive world of human trafficking, the plotting is intriguing and memorable。 There is an abundance of twists that I did not see coming and the end is a winner。 Overall, Out for Blood is a tremendous tale that definitely leaves me wanting more from both the author and this remarkable team of characters。I received a complimentary copy of this novel from Random House Transworld via NetGalley at my request, and this review is my own unbiased opinion。 。。。more

Massons gritty writing style is becoming clear in her second book Out for Blood as she draws us in with a character driven plot, not as gory as her debut Hold your Tongue but it's still a solid read。 As well as being a decent crime novel Masson also touches on class differences and human trafficking which makes up a huge part of the plot。 Massons gritty writing style is becoming clear in her second book Out for Blood as she draws us in with a character driven plot, not as gory as her debut Hold your Tongue but it's still a solid read。 As well as being a decent crime novel Masson also touches on class differences and human trafficking which makes up a huge part of the plot。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Can’t make my mind up if I liked this book or not。 Really enjoyed the way the plot wove in and out of each character’s story but can’t help but feel like it made for an obvious ending as the stories all drew together。 There was a lot of unnecessary characters and mini-plots that added nothing to the overall story (e。g。 Cooper’s wife being moody the entire way through the book and it turns out she is just pregnant at the very end???)。 The key characters were well developed, particularly Eve and I Can’t make my mind up if I liked this book or not。 Really enjoyed the way the plot wove in and out of each character’s story but can’t help but feel like it made for an obvious ending as the stories all drew together。 There was a lot of unnecessary characters and mini-plots that added nothing to the overall story (e。g。 Cooper’s wife being moody the entire way through the book and it turns out she is just pregnant at the very end???)。 The key characters were well developed, particularly Eve and I enjoyed being able to relate to the location。 May have felt differently had I read the first book that relates。 。。。more

OMG, if you are going to read any book this year it HAS to be this one。Being a massive fan of Deborah Masson's previous novel Hold Your Tongue I was stupidly excited to recieve a copy of Out for Blood。 If anything this one is even better!I was literally on the edge of my seat the whole way through and think I forgot to breathe at times, it's exhilarating, breath taking, engrossing, engaging and just WOW。Once again we see DI Eve Hunter tackling an unusual crime scene, a Jane Doe with a branding o OMG, if you are going to read any book this year it HAS to be this one。Being a massive fan of Deborah Masson's previous novel Hold Your Tongue I was stupidly excited to recieve a copy of Out for Blood。 If anything this one is even better!I was literally on the edge of my seat the whole way through and think I forgot to breathe at times, it's exhilarating, breath taking, engrossing, engaging and just WOW。Once again we see DI Eve Hunter tackling an unusual crime scene, a Jane Doe with a branding on her neck, the same way you'd see an animal branded。 Who is she and how did she end up hanging from a tree?Still traumatised and haunted by losing her friend (Book 1) you'll see Eve attending anger management/psychiatry sessions which she hates。 These sessions really add to the overall story and as a reader really helps you to start understanding Eve a little more。 The plot delves into the stark contrast of the wealthy, privileged and the life of the victims left hanging。I loved seeing the characters develop throughout this book, the diversity of the team dynamics and also the 'realness' of DI Hunter, showing that she's just as human as the rest of us。I can not wait to see what Deborah has in store for Book 3!!!Huge thanks to Random House UK/Transworld Publishers for the ARC。 。。。more

Out For Blood is the second book in this series, having read the first one, hold your tongue, I felt this seamlessly carried on with the lives of Eve Hunter and her team。DI Eve Hunter is based in Aberdeen and has been called to Hazlehead MacKenzie Championship golf course where an elderly gentleman is in a bad way after discovering a woman hanging in the trees。 This also looks like suicide but upon further inspection it can’t possibly be。 Later that day Eve and her team are called to the apartme Out For Blood is the second book in this series, having read the first one, hold your tongue, I felt this seamlessly carried on with the lives of Eve Hunter and her team。DI Eve Hunter is based in Aberdeen and has been called to Hazlehead MacKenzie Championship golf course where an elderly gentleman is in a bad way after discovering a woman hanging in the trees。 This also looks like suicide but upon further inspection it can’t possibly be。 Later that day Eve and her team are called to the apartment of Dean Johnstone who also appears to have committed suicide but again Eve isn’t so sure。 I liked how this unravelled and was a really gritty crime book dealing in human trafficking and prostitution that still goes on today making this a very real read, together with well written characters this becomes a very good read。 I would like to thank Netgalley and Random House UK, Transworld Publishers for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

Thank you to Netgalley, Random House and Deborah Masson for an ARC in return for an honest review。 This was the last book I read in 2020 and what a book to finish the year with。 I struggled to put this down from the moment I started it。 It’s the definition of psychological thriller! A thoroughly enjoyable second book in the DI Eve Hunter series。 I would recommend to anyone who likes crime thrillers。 It’s dark, gripping and fast-paced。 I can’t wait for the next instalment。

This is the second book in the DI Eve Hunter series。 If you have read the first then you'll know that Eve is an abrasive often quite angry person。 She clashes with colleagues who find her attitude, techniques and general demeanour hard to handle。 Does she feel as if she has to act like a man in a career dominated by men? This time the author gives the reader an insight into the world behind the police officer。 The people who have to spend each day confronting death and violence, it's easy to forg This is the second book in the DI Eve Hunter series。 If you have read the first then you'll know that Eve is an abrasive often quite angry person。 She clashes with colleagues who find her attitude, techniques and general demeanour hard to handle。 Does she feel as if she has to act like a man in a career dominated by men? This time the author gives the reader an insight into the world behind the police officer。 The people who have to spend each day confronting death and violence, it's easy to forget they have personal lives that can be strewn with problems too。I think Masson throws up an interesting conundrum about the way victims are perceived, in this case it is very much with the focus on the deaths of two young people。 The death of a privileged young man and a young girl who comes from lesser circumstances。 Straight away you have presumptions, expectations and a lot of stereotyping going on。Then as the story progresses the narrative changes in regards to perception。 Does wealthy and well-educated mean he was the better person? Does her lack of chance and choice in life automatically make her a person deserving of a bad fate? I actually really enjoyed the way Masson approached this aspect of the story, because it shows a fatal flaw in the thought process when it comes to society in general, and also often in policing。The human trafficking element of the story melds into the above, because the victims tend to be considered vulnerable and are often forgotten people in society。 The ones nobody misses。 Masson gives readers an intriguing crime read with a lot of food for thought。*I received a courtesy copy* 。。。more
